Tree House Relocation Project

Scope of Works

Specialist Lift & Installation  Tree House Relocation.

This was a unique and highly bespoke job carried out for a returning customer. They had acquired a children’s tree house and asked if we could relocate it from its original location to their own garden.

The tree house was situated in a small tree within a private garden. Despite the size of the tree, access was extremely limited, and our lorry-mounted crane was unable to get anywhere near the site. To overcome this, we fabricated a custom lifting beam and mounted it to a telehandler. The beam was designed in a cross formation, allowing us to lift from four corners of the structure and prevent any crushing or distortion from the slings.

Once the lifting apparatus was in place, we carefully slung the tree house and proceeded to cut it free from the tree using chainsaws. Although the tree was small, the removal still required precise coordination between the chainsaw operator and the lifting team to ensure the structure remained stable and personnel stayed safe throughout. One of our operatives, a fully qualified former tree surgeon, carried out this stage. His relevant training and certifications were critical to the safe and professional execution of the work.

The telehandler used for lifting and transport across the garden was operated by one of our experienced drivers, who holds all the necessary licenses and qualifications to carry out the job safely and within compliance standards.

With the tree house safely detached, we transported it across the garden and loaded it onto a flatbed trailer. We opted for a low-level trailer instead of our standard flatbed lorry, as the overall height of the structure would have exceeded clearance limits and risked contact with overhead wires during transport.

Once at the customer’s property, we installed a new elevated position for the tree house by fabricating and concreting in a steel plinth. A large steel plate was welded to the top of the plinth to support the full floor structure of the tree house and distribute the load evenly.

Installation on new elevated position

  • Restricted crane access at original site:
Our lorry-mounted crane could not access the area, so we custom-fabricated a cross-shaped lifting beam to mount to a telehandler, providing the reach and control needed for a safe lift.
  • Risk of crushing the tree house during lifting:
The lifting method was designed to support the structure from all four corners to prevent damage from sling pressure.
  • Cutting the structure free from a small tree:
Although the tree was small, precise chainsaw work was required to avoid movement or collapse. This was carried out by a qualified former tree surgeon on our team, ensuring the job was done professionally and safely.
  • Qualified plant operator on site:
Our telehandler was operated by a fully certified driver, ensuring the lift and movement were performed in full compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Transport height restrictions due to overhead wires:
To stay within safe height limits, we used a low-level trailer instead of a taller lorry, avoiding the risk of snagging on overhead lines.
  • Installation on new elevated position:
A concrete-set steel plinth was fabricated on site, with a welded top plate to provide long-term support and distribute the load of the structure evenly.

Ongoing Story

A Tree House That Keeps Giving

Some years after the original installation, the customer moved house and their children grew up. Rather than dismantle or scrap the structure, they generously offered it to Zac Butterfield, who arranged to relocate the tree house once again, this time to his own home.

Today, the same tree house now stands proudly in its third home, providing fun and adventure for Zac’s two young sons, Jax and Lenny. It’s a great example of how a well-built, carefully handled structure can continue to bring joy across generations and families.
